PROJECT RBC I: Strategy Strengthening Community Based Rehabilitation in Children with Disabilities in the Southern Andes of Peru

This project was executed by Caritas Cusco, to help strengthen the process of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) as a model and inclusive development strategy for people with disabilities, especially children in rural communities of the province Acomayo. The building project was implemented after a proper rehabilitation phase.

This project in the rehabilitation phase was executed with the support of Caritas Peru, and its strengthening phase of the strategy was implemented with the support of Caritas Germany.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
• To contribute to the community inclusion of people with disabilities (PCD) for the exercise of their fundamental rights to life, education, health, and to work through the ‘RBC’ with focus on communities in the regions of Cusco and the southern regions of the high Andes of Peru.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:
• To strengthen the basic integral rehabilitation of people with disabilities decreasing their social exclusion in communities in the regions of Cusco and Puno in the southern Andean Regions of Peru.

PARTICIPANT POPULATION:  We managed to support a total of 98 people from the before mentioned communities, all with different health problems that didn’t allow them to lead a normal or productive life in within their community.

PROJECT DURATION: 2008-2009 (18 months) in its stage of rehabilitation. The strengthening stage lasted from the years 2009 to 2011 (20 months long).
