Abundant rainfall, landslides and flooding are recorded in the Cusco Region each year. Unfortunately, the first months of 2010 were marked by the misfortune due to heavy rains for which the Cusquenians were not prepared.

The Zurite reconstruction project was developed by Cáritas Cusco due to the severe damage caused in the District of Zurite, the Anta province, Cusco Region.

This project had as objetive to ensure the reconstruction of the most damaged houses and most affected families as well as the development of strategies to prevent future disasters.  This project was carried out thanks to the financing of Peru Cáritas and Cáritas Germany.

PARTICIPANT POPULATION: 20 families in the District of Zurite affected by the overflow of the Pitumayo River after the torrential rains in the first quarter of 2010. They did not have the financial means to reconstruct their homes. The entire population of the district will be benefited by the impulse of the reconstruction in the district and the collaboration in the development of the reconstruction plan which showed the mapping of risks and technical studies for the relocation of the town of Yanama.
